Low Light + Black and White
A low light shot can be an astonishing one if you can nail the perfect one that is. So I did a few (well a lot actually) experiment with low lightings with torch-light and candles. With torch light it produces a lot of noise and overexposure of highlights. With candles Ah... it did produce a nice subtle tonal diffusion to it...but doesn't produce the a good shadow that i wanted. But than again the result could vary, since I'm using an Olympus, maybe Nikon, Canon or Fujifilm could do better.
Now where you have a low light, adding black & white or Blue/Brown & white is even a big bonus-add more drama and feel to it. Most of the low lighting was position below my face. Had I try different position... say from above the result wld be different.
Most of the Shot taken was on manual mode and like any portrait shot, the focus is/should always be at the eyes. I set the shutter somewhere between 1/5 - 1/3 one that produce the least minimal shake. Aperture, less depth of less somewhere between f6-f3. But adjusting the WB was the most essential for me to get the "mood" of the scene that I wanted, in this case warmth.
Overall I couldn't get any perfect shot. Took more than 10 shot and only one came out good and that's the below shot.
This one's came with candle light, though it didn't gave the shadow that I wanted, it did gave me smooth tonal range and warm. Just made a small post-work of gaussian blur and add black colour on the lower body part and Voila! Oh I even made a version of Blue & White (which am still trying to nail the perfect one).
